چکیده
The first N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) mediated activation of stable carboxylate esters to generate enolate intermediates is disclosed. The catalytically generated arylacetic ester enolates undergo enantioselective reactions with α,β-unsaturated imines.

Chiral N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed generation of ester enolate equivalents from α,β-unsaturated aldehydes for enantioselective Diels–Alder reactions
The catalytic generation of chiral ester enolate equivalents from α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with chiral N-hetereocyclic carbene catalysts makes possible highly enantioselective hetero-Diels– Alder reactions. The reactions proceed under simple, mild conditions with both aliphatic and aromatic substituted enals as substrates. Previous attempts to employ these starting materials as enolate precurs...

Organocatalytic activation of readily available substrates has led to the rapid development of many enantioselective reactions in the last decade. In N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis, reactions of enals with enones or enone derivatives have been extensively investigated and are reported to undergo a diverse set of transformations based on the catalytically generated enolate and homoenolat...

Asymmetric functionalization of alkylacetic esters and their derivatives is traditionally achieved via preformed enolates with chiral auxiliaries. Catalytic versions of such transformations are attractive but challenging. A direct catalytic activation of simple alkylacetic esters via N-heterocyclic carbene organocatalysts to generate chiral enolate intermediates for highly enantioselective reac...
متن کاملDirect α-functionalization of simple aldehydes via oxidative N-heterocyclic carbene catalysis.
A direct α-functionalization of simple aldehydes under N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) catalysis and direct generation of ester enolate equivalents from nonfunctionalized aldehydes are disclosed. The catalysis involves selective enolate generation from an oxidatively generated NHC-bounded ester intermediate as a key step. The ester enolate intermediates undergo stereoselective reactions with enone...
متن کاملβ-Carbon activation of saturated carboxylic esters through N-heterocyclic carbene organocatalysis.
The activation of the α-carbons of carboxylic esters and related carbonyl compounds to generate enolate equivalents as nucleophiles is one of the most powerful strategies in organic synthesis. We reasoned that the horizons of chemical synthesis could be greatly expanded if the typically inert β-carbons of saturated esters could be used as nucleophiles. However, despite the rather significant fu...
